Putin says jet fuel prices, flight fares must not grow

MOSCOW, Jul 16 (PRIME) -- Jet fuel prices, on which flight fares depend, must not grow, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with interim head of the republic of Altai Oleg Khorokhordin on Tuesday.

“It is crucial that they do not rise,” Putin said.

Khorokhordin said that the flight tickets to Novosibirsk from Gorno-Altaisk are costly, and people prefer travelling by car.

“But if prices for jet fuel go down, like you’ve said, the situation will become balanced,” he told Putin.

Khorokhorin said that the local government has agreed with the Pobeda low cost carrier to shave off the fares.

“Like we’ve told you, there are daily flights with Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk, two flights with Kazan, Yekaterinburg,” he said. “Now we are talking to St Petersburg and Novokuznetsk. They are mainly tourists. The fare is really a bit too expensive for the people of Gorno-Altaisk, but not as costly as time.”
